Suzanne M. McCalla Obituary
Suzanne M. McCalla, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2025. She was the wife of the late Dale H. McCalla, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage.
Born in Cambridge, Suzanne was the daughter of the late Paul and Dorothy (Hamilton) Fuchs. She attended Mount Alvernia Academy in her elementary years. When her family moved to Gloucester she attended and graduated from Gloucester High School. After graduating from North Shore Community College with an Associate Degree in Science, she earned her Polarity Practitioner certification from The Polarity Institute. Suzanne worked as the Activity Director at Blueberry Hill Nursing Home for many years and held part time positions at several local gift shops and fabric stores.
Suzanne loved spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her so much joy. Suzanne and Dale loved taking small road trips along the New England coastline, walking the boulevard, and listening to the band concerts at Stage Fort Park. Her passion was sewing and quilting. She worked in several fabric stores teaching quilting and was part of many quilting groups. Over the years she donated numerous pieces to charity and proudly gifted them to family and friends. Suzanne was also active in her church community. She enjoyed being part of the church fairs, prayer groups, and bake sales.
Suzanne is survived by her daughter, Amy Clancy and her partner Michael Simpson of Gloucester; four grandchildren- Nicholas Paige of Gloucester, Benjamin Paige and his wife Megan of Maine, Aiden and Ethan Phejarsai of Malden and their mother Annie; great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Russell Paige of Maine; her sister and best friend, Gloria Landy of Manchester; niece, Susan Henderson of Manchester; nephew, John Henderson of Ipswich; and several great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Suzanne is predeceased by her son Adam McCalla, brother-in-law Arthur Landy and stepfather Dr. Bernard Williams.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Church, 74 Pleasant Street, Gloucester. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Manchester-By-The-Sea, MA. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Suzanne's memory to Saint Ann's Church or Care Dimensions.
