Virginia C. Ahearn Obituary

Virginia "Ginny" C. (Reed) Ahearn, 93, of Gloucester, wife of the late Richard F. Ahearn Jr., passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, September 12, 2023, at Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Gloucester surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Gloucester, MA on November 13, 1929, daughter of the late Caroline (Cushman) Goulart and stepfather, Ralph "Pete" Goulart.

Ginny or "Nana Ginger Baby" as she was known to her grandchildren, lived a very full and impactful life. She raised her family and had plenty of time and love to share with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, each one of them special to her in very different and unique ways. Ginny worked for close to a half century in the restaurant and hospitality industry in and around Cape Ann. There was not a question about this industry that Ginny was unprepared to offer her input and opinion on. Ginny was a wife, a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sibling, aunt, coworker, and coach to anyone who wanted to learn from her abundant expertise. As Ginny approached her final days, she welcomed all of her family members who spent countless hours ensuring she understood how much she meant to each and every one of them. Ginny will be greatly missed but she has passed on a legacy that will live on for decades to come.

Virginia is survived by 6 daughters, Diana Shamberger of Gloucester, Deborah Paradis and her husband Tom of Rockport, Christa Tumbiolo and her husband Matty of Florida, Kellie LoPiccolo and her husband Jack of Gloucester and twins, Kathleen Fitzgerald of Gloucester and Kolleen Hurst and her husband Scott of Rockport; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, siblings Ralph "Peter" Goulart and his wife Elaine of Virginia, Carol Ederer of Alabama, Stephen Goulart of Virginia, Stephanie Midget and her husband Don of California, Marcia Goulart of New York and sister in law Jane Goulart of Georgia, in addition to 16 nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister Cynthia Mayo, brother Michael Goulart, brother-in-law Larry Ederer, sons in law, Leonard Shamberger and Brian Fitzgerald and grandson Jonathan Shamberger.

Her visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. A private service and burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her name to Friends of Seacoast, 292 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930. The family would like to extend a most sincere thank you to the wonderful staff at Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care received during her time there.
