Wendell F. Jacques Jr. Obituary
Wendell Francis (Sandy) Jacques, Jr., 84, Sandy Jacques, 84, beloved husband, devoted father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and faithful friend passed away peacefully on Sunday May 4, 2025.
Sandy was a gentleman and a friend to many. He had a big smile, a robust laugh and a quick wit, which many referred to as "bank humor". He was a kind, loving and wonderful father and husband. Sandy will be remembered for his many accomplishments both personal and professional. He enjoyed playing ice hockey, tennis, paddle tennis, water skiing and snow skiing. He was also an avid sailor with a knack for the spinnaker. He was a much loved Duxbury Youth Hockey coach. He taught his children at a very young age to respect the sea and how to enjoy its many gifts.
Sandy was born on August 13, 1940, in Morristown, NJ. He attended St. Georges School ('58) in Newport, Rhode Island and then went on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania ('62) and Wharton School of Business ('64). He was a stroke on the men's eight at UPenn and while attending business school Sandy worked in the lab cleaning operating room equipment. The doctors all requested Sandy be the one to clean their instruments because he was the most meticulous. His first job after graduate school was with the Bank of Boston in the Trust Division. After leaving Bank of Boston (First Boston) he started a pharmaceutical company called ECHO which made great strides in early T-Cell research.
Sandy met his wife, Kathryn Eaton and moved to Rockport, Massachusetts. They married in 1998. Sandy and Kay loved to travel, they enjoyed many adventures together including ski trips to Europe and cruises in the Caribbean. Sandy and Kay loved the ocean and enjoyed walking along it together. Sandy valued his community and was voted a Rockport Selectman in 2009.
For Sandy, nothing could top spending time with family. He loved time on the beach bodysurfing and making sandcastles with his grandchildren or just relaxing in a beach chair with a good book. He taught his children how to row and how to sail, which also included racing. He was often found on the deck of his home behind his grill serving up burgers and steaks. He was always up for a trip to the ice cream spot and often treated family and friends to lobster rolls from Kenny on Bearskin Neck. He loved his Saabs, especially a limited edition convertible that he enjoyed driving with the top down and the heater on.
Sandy is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn Eaton Jacques, and his children, Melanie Coffin Seely (Christopher) of Duxbury, MA; Wendell F. (Trevor) Jacques, III (Caron) of Scottsdale, AZ and Gwin Burleigh Jacques of Plymouth, MA; his bonus children, George Albrecht, Jr. (Abby) of Hamilton, MA. and Amy Albrecht Lypps (Andrew) of Salem, MA.; and by his 16 grandchildren, Caylin, Graham, Ellory Jane, Kylie (Chris), Madison, Peyton, Jack, Emily, Patrick, Avery, Emme Kate, Calvin, Harper, Abaigeal, Milo and Zoe; and 2 great-grandchildren, Taytum and Violet.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Deborah Coffin Jacques, formerly of Duxbury, MA as well as his parents, Ruth Wiley Jacques and Wendell F. Jacques and his brother, Barry Emerson Jacques.
