He was predeceased by : his parents, John Whitman and Selma Whitman (Lehto). He is survived by : his sister Joyce of Lunenburg, MA.; his children, Carole E. Whitney of Jackson, ME, Robert S. Whitman of Jackson, ME, Kathy L. Whitman of Groton, MA, Steven J. Whitman of Lunenburg, MA, James M. Whitman of Lunenburg, MA and Susan M. Whitman of Leominster, MA.; his grandsons, Sam of Jackson, ME and Frank of Groton, MA.; and his wife Nancy E. Whitman.
