He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Autio and Louise Autio; and his brother Kenneth H. Autio. He is survived by: his wife Ellen Marie (Reid); his children, Mary Beth Blanchard (Joe), James J. Autio Jr., William H. Autio and Suzanne Autio (Matthew O'Connell); his granddaughters, Sarah and Erin; Karen DeVoe. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
