He was predeceased by : his parents, Bernard Cantwell and Helen Cantwell (O'Rourke); and his siblings, William Cantwell, Arlene Lyons, Mary Elizabeth Uele, Eleanor Kneeland, Dorothy Cantwell, Bernard Cantwell, Sophie Murphy and Joan Lessard.

He is survived by : his wife Catherine S. "Kay" Cantwell (Caggiano) of Haverhill; his children, Catherine Cantwell (Michael Young) of Newburyport, Robert J. Cantwell, Jr. (Ruth) of Berwick, ME, John R. Cantwell (Deborah) of Bradford, Ellen F. Lagasse (Kevin) of Plum Island and Bernard E. Cantwell (Deana) of North Andover; and his siblings, Erlene Dozibrin of Salem, NH, George Cantwell of Beverly and Pat Ross of Bradford. He is also survived by his thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 24th 2024 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home (486 Main St, Haverhill, MA 01830). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Wednesday, April 24th 2024 at 12:00 PM at the St. James Church (185 Winter St, Haverhill, MA 01830).
