He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard P. Cotter and Dorothy M. Cotter (Harrigan); and his brother Michael Cotter (Jean). He is survived by: his wife Karen Cotter (Saunders); his children, Jennifer Cotter of Charlestown, Justin Cotter of Wilbraham, Sarah McGillicuddy (Peter) of Holliston and Emily Durkin (Joe) of Cohasset; his siblings, James, Kevin, Joan, Timothy, Patricia, Kathryn and Robert; and his friends, Vincent and Jane Purpura. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, valued brother and sister-in-laws, cousins.
He was the recipient of the Natick Shining Light Award and the Herve B. Lemaire Award for Excellence in Education, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to teaching.
