“Oh how I miss Earl's regular knock on my door, followed invariably by one of his endless stories, stories that defined the life of a remarkable guy filled with curiosity, quiet confidence, and an ability to find something amazing and joyful daily. He was unique in my experience, someone I admired for his intellect and humane sensibilities. I am sad for myself that he is gone but I take some comfort knowing that he would have had a happy summer in a favorite place, Woods Hole. Godspeed, Earl!”
