Walter I. Barboza Obituary

We are sad to announce that on January 11, 2024, at the age of 97, Walter I. Barboza (Hyannis, Massachusetts), born in Osterville, Massachusetts passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by : his parents, Manuel Canto Barboza and Mary Gomes Barboza; and his wife Suzanne Rodgers. He is also survived by 12 children blessed him with 21 grandchildren, 35 Great grandchildren, and even one Great-great grandchild.

Walter was immensely proud of his contribution to the Non-Violence Movement and saved personal correspondence from Mrs. Coretta Scott King.

“I met your Dad in the ER with one of his sons. We were there for hours & even though we were both sick he was quite the character and I told him I could have chatted with him for many more hours than we did. The irony was I work for the Cape & Islands Veterans Outreach Center literally right across the street from where he lived! We got him a bed, helped when he wanted it with our food pantry groceries and I chatted a few more times the last of which was Thanksgiving. I will miss him!”
