David R. Miller Obituary
David R. Miller, 74, of Ipswich, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025.
Born in Church Point, Louisiana, David was the son of the late Erick and Maggie (Trahan) Miller.
David's life was a testament to kindness, dedication, and love. He touched the hearts of many and will be clearly missed by all who knew him.
After graduating from high school, David pursued a career in the Thoroughbred racehorse industry. He became a successful jockey, achieving an impressive record with 891 wins at notable racetracks including Delta Downs, Waterford Park, Turf Paradise, and Mountaineer.
Following his accomplished career as a jockey, David remained active in the racing industry. He worked on the starting gate at Tampa Downs and Delaware Park, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to the sport.
Eventually retiring to Ipswich, MA, David and his companion, Terry McCarthy, devoted themselves to running a horse rescue. Their efforts provided care and support for horses in need.
In addition to his work with horses, David enjoyed gardening and fishing, finding joy and relaxation in these pursuits.
David is survived by his son, Jonathan Miller and his wife, Lydia Miller of Opelousas, Louisiana, grandchildren, Chelsea Castille, Christian Miller, and Xander Miller, cousin, Anthony Trahan of Louisiana and Michael Trahan of Texas.
In addition to his parents, David is predeceased by his grandparents, Pierce and Marie Trahan, and his companion, Terry McCarthy.
Burial will take place in Louisiana at a later date.
