He was predeceased by: his parents, Hazel MacWhinnie (Warren) and Hayward MacWhinnie; and his sibling Jean Hamilton. He is survived by: his wife Helen MacWhinnie (Smith); his children, Richard MacWhinnie Jr. (Kathy), Brian MacWhinnie (Joanna), Andrea Mercier-Green (Jim) and Diane Willard (Nick); and his grandchildren, Eric MacWhinnie, Sarah MacWhinnie, Amy Potter, Nichole Armano, Heather Mercier, Kristin Cisneros, Michael Mercier, Nathan Mercier, Paige Willard and Rachel Willard.
Visitation was held on Friday, May 2nd 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Campbell Funeral Home - Ipswich (6 High St, Ipswich, MA 01938). A funeral service was held on Friday, May 2nd 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Friday, May 2nd 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Cowles Memorial Cemetery (29 Town Farm Rd, Ipswich, MA 01938).
