He was predeceased by : his granddaughters, Chantal Brisson and Victoria Crouthamel; his siblings, Thaddeus, Paul, Fred, Stephen, Stanley, Edward, Frank Koczela and Stephanie Koczela; and his parents, Ignatius Koczela and Mary Koczela (Boryczka).

He is survived by : his wife Beverly Tash Koczela; his children, Diane Koczela (Christian Brisson), Lisa Provost (Jon) of Adams, Jennifer Ceccarelli (Bruno) of Danville, CA and Michael Koczela (Rebecca) of Cheshire; his grandchildren, Nicholas Brisson, Marcus Brisson, Jonathan Provost (Meghan), Joshua Provost, Elizabeth Provost, Matthew Provost (Emilie), Julianna Ceccarelli, Gabriella Ceccarelli, Hanna Koczela and Aidan Koczela; his grandson-in-law Craig Crouthamel; and his great grandchild Victor Joseph Crouthamel.

Memorial donations may be made to a trust fund for the benefit of Joseph's new great grandson Victor by making checks payable to Pershing LLC and including QL1010030 in the memo line; or to Adams Post 160 American Legion, through the funeral home.
