Maureen (Mixon) Frechette Obituary
Maureen Frechette, 74, of Tyngsborough, MA, and formerly of Billerica & Lowell, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Lowell General Hospital after a courageous battle with stage IV uterine cancer.
Born in Lowell, Maureen was the daughter of the late John and Kathleen Mixon from Billerica. She graduated from Billerica High School with the Class of 1969.
She worked for many years for the City of Lowell’s Welfare Department and, more recently, was employed as a security guard for the Lowell Boot Mills.
Maureen enjoyed music, dancing, fashion, shopping and people watching. She was known for her unique vibrant style, often wearing colorful outfits, makeup, jewelry and colorful wigs to match. Outgoing and friendly, she enjoyed going to movies, concerts, thrift shopping, reading, and being with people. Maureen had a deep love of all animals especially her cat Slinky and late cat Cadence.
In December 2023 Maureen was diagnosed with stage IV uterine cancer and was told she only had weeks to live. The cancer had spread to her lungs, spine and pelvis. After receiving this devastating diagnosis Maureen refused to believe her time here on earth was close to an end. Maureen chose to fight this and she was relentless. Moving in with her daughter she began treatment. Her days of Chemotherapy she called her “spa day” as the wonderful staff at Lowell generals cancer center took great care of her. She prayed hard, cried out loud often, attended healing services at the church, had reiki performed on her with healing crystals, incense, candles, visualization, meditation, motivation & spiritual music, bible readings as well as many loved ones praying for her. Maureen’s positive energy was effective and her scans eventually showed that the cancer had reduced by a significant amount. The time she spent after these intense treatments were most memorable. Maureen traveled to the white mountains with family, attended multiple concerts, shopped for various wigs in many different vibrant colors to coordinate into her fashionable attire, going to her daughter’s hair salon to see the stylist to socialize, gossip and people watch. She had plans of traveling on a cruise with family and recently got her passport. Unfortunately, her lungs being compromised she got pneumonia and she lost her fierce battle.
She is survived by her sons, Sean Frechette of Nashua, NH, and Arthur jr. “Louie” Frechette of Lowell, MA; her daughter and son-in-law, Monique and Michael Landry of Methuen, MA; her ex-husband Arthur Frechette of Lowell, Ma; her aunt and godmother Mary Coccozella of Gulfport, Fl; her brothers, John and Dayana Mixon of Maine, Stephen and Carol Mixon of Billerica, MA, Tom and Patty Mixon of North Andover, MA, and Danny Mixon of Lowell, MA; her sisters, Kathleen Mixon of Florida, and Theresa and Jerry Smith; her grandchildren, Brandon , Daysha , Liana , and Michael Jr.; and her great-grandson, Myles.
