He was predeceased by: his parents, Abilio and Elvira; his sibling Carlota Goncalves; and his sibling-in-law Felizardo Madureira. He is survived by: his wife Adelaide Alves Miranda Goncalves; his child Suzete Goncalves Rodrigues (Grafilo); his grandsons, Tyler and Brandon Rodrigues; and his brother Manuel Goncalves (Gloria). He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Jose's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
