He was predeceased by: his former wife Irene; his children, Michael Hettinger of Canberra, JoAnn (Greg Tobin) of Southboro and Elizabeth (Pat Tarmey) of Newton; and his sister Diane Leary.

He is survived by: his grandchildren, Corinna, Jimmy Tobin, Ed, Jim Tarmey and Phoebe Hettinger; and his wife Olga. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
