He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth "Betty" Mendes (Kearney); his parents, Christian Mendes and Isadora Mendes (Gomes); his siblings, Jenny Pina, Clara DeBarros, Dorothy Johnson, Mary DaLuze, John Mendes, Lino Mendes, Richard Mendes, Leonard Mendes and Edward Mendes; and his son-in-law Fredrick Moore.
He is survived by: his children, Esther "Denise" Moore of St. Petersburg, FL, Janise Mendes (Eugene) of Port St, Robin Santiago (Bruce Sr.) of Wareham, MA, Sherrie Donalson (Sammy) of Vero Beach, FL, James Mendes, Jr. (Michele) of Hyannis, MA, Elaina Mendes (Robert) of Hyannis, MA and Crystal Reed (Quincy) of Douglasville, GA.. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
