Though Rick may no longer walk beside us, his memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Rick touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In his absence, his spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
He is survived by: his parents, Amalie Slagle and Kustermann; his wife Darlene-Marie Slagle (Saxelin) of Maynard, MA; his daughter Cassie Messmer (Amy Nomejko) of Belmont, MA; his nieces, Karolyn Keiken of Wheaton, IL, Patty and Madison Shepard of Marion, IL; his cousin Karen Krzos of Westmont, IL.; and his friend Chuck Engelke. He is also survived by several aunts and cousins from his father.
This was Rick's favorite charity. On more than one occasion, Rick offered to match donations with his personal funds for his friends and colleagues, who would donate during the holiday season.
