He was predeceased by: his parents, James Regan and Gertrude Regan (Smith); his wife Susan E. Guarente (Guarente); and his brothers, John E. Smith and J. Peter Regan (Mary Jo) of Melrose.

He is survived by: his sons, James P. Regan (Leea) of Melrose and Thomas M. Regan (Valerie) of Melrose; his sister Carole Regan of Melrose; his brother-in-law Bill Guarente of Acton; and his grandchildren, Katie, Caroline, Samantha, Denis, Susan, Erin and Brigid. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
