He was predeceased by: his parents, Adelino Melo and Maria Estrela Melo (Morais); his son João G. "John" Silva; and his siblings, Jose, Adelino Melo, Jr. and Eduarda Mota.
He is survived by: his wife Maria C. Silva (Tavares); his children, Durval Silva (Elizabeth) of Westport, Jenny Silva and Ana Silva; his grandchildren, Kristiana and Dylan Silva; and his siblings, Jorge Melo (Maria) of Florida, Tina Melo (Mario) of Westport, Valdemira, Costa (late Eduardo) of New Bedford and Filomena Tripp (James) of New Bedford.
Visitation was held on Friday, January 16th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Aubertine-Lopes Funeral Home & Cremation (129 Allen St, New Bedford, MA 02740). A funeral service was held on Friday, January 16th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
