Joel E. Barboza Obituary

NEW BEDFORD — Joel E. Barbosa, 43, of New Bedford, passed away unexpectedly on March 22, 2026.

A lifelong resident of New Bedford, Joel was the son of April A. Barboza of New Bedford and the grandson of the late Estelle Barboza. He was employed as a fish packer at American Pride Seafood and was a familiar presence throughout the community. He will be remembered for his quiet and thoughtful nature.

Mr. Barboza enjoyed walking and was known to travel throughout the city on foot. He also found enjoyment in drawing and playing chess, pursuits that reflected his creativity and appreciation for strategy.

In addition to his loving mother, Joel is survived by his daughter, Alia J. Verissimo-Barboza of New Bedford; his sister, Kelly Barboza of New Bedford; his nephews, Pacine Baez and Preston Baez; and his close friends, Jason Bergeron and Curtis Wilson.

Memorial service to be conducted in Grace Harbor Church, New Bedford, at a date and time to be announced.
