José S. Estrela Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of José S. Estrela of New Bedford, Massachusetts, who passed away on February 22, 2024, at the age of 71, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Antonio D. Estrela and Deolinda Barbosa Estrela (Simão); his former life partner Maria Goretti Estrela; and his siblings, Manuel Estrela and Conceição Ribeiro.

He is survived by : his wife Ana Maria Estrela (Monteiro) of New Bedford; his children, Robert Estrela (Donaria) of New Bedford, Kevin Estrela (Jessica Pacheco) of New Bedford and Lisa Estrela of New Bedford; his stepchildren, Aimee Duclos (Victor) of Everett, MA and Alvaro Oliveira (Julie-Ann Hodgkinson) of New Bedford; his sisters, Maria Rosa Tavares of Fairhaven and Fatima Estrela of São Miguel, Açores; his godparents, José Simão and Rosa Tavares; and his sibling Margarida Lima. He is also survived by 13 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.

Steven Patterson wrote a sympathy message

“We were saddened to learn of Joe's passing. As a person, he was clearly first-rate, and it was a privilege to have known him. Joe's long, courageous battle with illness over the past few years was inspirational. Though all who knew him will miss him, he has earned his rest, and we can take comfort knowing that we'll see him again. We pray that those closest to him will receive God's comfort in abundance.
