He was predeceased by: his parents, David Karel and Cila Karel (Lipschutz); and his daughter Linda L. Karel, MD. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Frances Karel (Weeks); his children, Steven Karel (Lizbeth Hedstrom) of Auburndale, Karen Karel of Waltham and Debra Karel Nardone (Mark Nardone) of Holliston; his grandchildren, Amanda Nardone, Kristen Nardone, Emma Griffith and Bennet Karel; his sister Rena Carmel; his niece Julia Carmel; Marc. He is also survived by his parents, by his brother-in-law James Weeks and sister-in-law.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.

Marcus shared many of allan michael's classes and a number of very pleasant moments outside the confines of the institute. We managed to keep in touch with each other over he passing decades and continue the repartee we started in the late 1950's. I will miss him. Robert kaiser, sc.d.”
