Eleanor Dunfey-Freiburger wrote a sympathy message

“Dearest fStephan,, Eleanor Dunfey here. I have just watched the very moving tribute to the Ritchie Boys on60 minutes. I had kept in touch with Stephan while he was at a nursing facility in New York State. I recall his address being on Ransom Road. My last email bounced back. I had sent him o copy of the book I had written about my family, because he has a special section in about coming to work for my family. He spoke many times in my World Religions class. He and Frances were “family”.”

“Please start down at the messages below and read from the bottom up. Space was limited. So hard to believe that Stephan passed on Kristallnacht, on the anniversary that impacted his life. 
May the memories and strength of family and friends turn this bitter time to bittersweet and then into sweet memories. May his memory always be for a blessing. It was a blessing to know him.”

“On behalf of my family, people in the Buffalo area, around the world, and all the lives he touched with his teaching I want to extend my deepest sympathies to you. I know family was very important to him and talked of you. I know his memory will live on in the footprint he left. It was an honor to meet and learn from him, and spend a bit of time with him. “Mom lost touch with Stephan when he moved to Brothers of Mercy since he didn't like the food. After last year's 60 Minutes Special on the Richie Boys, I sent Stephan a letter there sharing that Mom passed away from covid. Given that he passed away in MA I know he may have moved and never saw it. I learned of his passing at the Shir Shalom streamed service on Friday night when his name was mentioned for kaddish. “My sister and I met Stephan on separate occasions when we'd went to town to visit our mom at Amberleigh. Stephan and Mom became friends despite being on different sides of the building. They would attend services, etc. and visit with each other. We learned from Mom about Stephan's experiences and talents with utmost respect. I know I learned more on the Holocaust website as Mom was in the process of reading his book, then later my sister. (Please see the next note for more.)”
