He was loved and cherished by many people including: his grandchild Pupup; his parents, Florence Amelia (Kittell) and John Milton Slade; his wife Phila Staines Slade; his daughters, Becky Yoshitani (Tay), Joan Riley (Tom) and Kathy Slade (Paul McGuire); his grandchildren, Patrick Costa (Amy), Yoshi Yoshitani (Brian Schulman), Rachael O'Grady, Taylor Yoshitani, Ryan Yoshitani and Linnie McGuire; his sister-in-law Ann Mentzer; his nephew John Mentzer; his cousins, Ruth Kearns, Doug Slade, Deborah Germain and Sue Slade Weirick; his friend Ellen Charlton; and also, Stuff and Rigger. He was also cherished by many friends and family.
