He was predeceased by : his parents, Richard Guy Backus of Putnam, NY and Orpha May Backus (Vaughan) of Kingsbury, NY.; and his siblings, Royce Backus, Doris Irene Manley (Backus), Dulcie Fern Knickerbocker (Backus), Vera Inabelle Rainbow (Bakus), Elva Vita Washburn (Backus) and Elma Vida Backus.
