He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis J. Murphy and Catherine Murphy (Greene); his wife Maureen A. Murphy (Schwinn); and his grandchild Keri. He is survived by: his children, Francis J. "Fran" Murphy (Charlene) of Braintree, Michael J. Murphy of Braintree, John C. Murphy (late Donna) of Whitman, Kevin E. Murphy of Braintree and Brian P. Murphy of Braintree; his grandchildren, Sean, Cory, Brendan, Stephanie and Joseph; and his siblings, Mary, Cathy, Frankie, Peter, Patrick, Sara, Mickey and Charlie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
