John-Peter S. Dunn Obituary

John-Peter Schuyler Dunn, son of the late John Francis Dunn and Mida van Zuylen van Nyevelt Dunn, born July 9, 1952 in Hartford CT died peacefully surrounded by family on October 5, 2026, in Danvers, MA.

He grew up in Colorado, attending Colorado Academy. When his family moved back east, he attended the Rivers School in Weston MA, graduating in 1970, followed by Brandeis University (BA 1974) and Boston University (MBA 1978). He was proud to answer the call of President John F. Kennedy and joined the Peace Corps, serving as a teacher in Ghana 1974-1976, and maintained close contact with the people he taught- they taught him as much as he taught them. He returned to Africa several times, bringing his family. His love of teaching was further carried on by serving as a board member at the Montessori School of Endicott College and KIPP Academy.

JP married the love of his life and companion in adventures- Andrea Marcolini in August of 1982, eventually settling in Rockport, MA. They began blazing a trail of adventures-sailing, skiing, world travels, and finally the greatest adventure of all-parenthood and the proud father of triplets.

Always a great fan of Boston sports teams, he passed his love of the Red Sox and Celtics on to his children. JP's zest for life caught up everyone around him, loving and sharing in escapes to Tim Pond in Maine with family and friends, sailing out of Gloucester and Harpswell Maine, skiing and cycling through Europe.

JP was blessed with a career that matched perfectly with his abilities, a convincing salesman beyond compare, leading down a path of great success. Most of his career was spent at Oracle, SAP and Adobe selling software.

JP served his community in many ways; he served on the board of Piers Park Sailing Center which serves inner city children and disabled veterans. In addition, he was a dedicated Deacon at the First Congregation Church in Rockport, MA.

JP had a curious mind and a generous spirit, he loved to read , tell stories and share good times. He always lived his life with an optimistic outlook. Family and friends enriched his life which led to the quality of the man he was.

JP is survived by his wife of 44 years Andrea Marcolini Dunn, children Jared W. Dunn and wife Taylor; Jessica S. Dunn; Mariah S. Moon and husband Shane; sister Jacqueline A. Dunn and husband Kevin Flanagan of Florenceville-Bristol NB Canada; brother Christopher Van R. Dunn and wife Patricia Mullen of Bellingham WA, and many beloved nieces and nephews, grandnieces/nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2026, at the First Congregational Church in Rockport, MA at 12PM followed by a reception. There will be a zoom option for people to attend virtually. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family welcomes donations in JP's memory to either of the following organizations: Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute, in gratitude to Dr. Pathak and Dr. Papas for their dedicated and compassionate care.
