William B. Macaione Jr. Obituary
William B. Macaione, 71, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2026, at his home in Rockport. Born in Lawrence, MA, Bill was the son of the late William and Margaret Macaione (Simpson) of Lawrence, MA and Sanford, ME.
Bill will be remembered for many things. He was a passionate fisherman instilled in him by his father at a very young age. He had many "secret" fishing holes from Cape Cod to Cape Ann. Working in sales his entire career, Bill was a real talker. For many years, Bill was employed by Ipswich Ford where he enjoyed meeting new people and always did what was best for his customers. Playing cribbage was a favorite pastime of Bill's. He belonged to various leagues across Cape Ann. Bill also loved to cook and took great pleasure in serving his Italian specialties to family and friends. A true member of "Patriots Nation," Bill was a loyal fan for many years. He also enjoyed many Red Sox games during the season. Bill was a lucky man in many ways. But the day he scratched a winning one million dollar lottery ticket, had less to do with luck and more about his generous spirit. Most important to Bill, was becoming a "Big Brother," through the Big Brother Big Sister Foundation of Eastern MA, where he met his "little.". For many years, he developed a special relationship with Jeremy, always being there for him.
Bill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elaine C. Engemann; sister-in laws Karen Haendler and Michelle LeBlanc (Chip Leblanc of Falmouth, MA and brother-in-law Richard Engemann (Sandy Engemann) of Neenah, WI, nephews Jason Haendler of San Luis Obispo, CA Alexander Engemann and niece Sara Swidal of Minneapolis, MI and Jeremy Lane of Gloucester.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by a sister-in-law Kathleen Hall and brother-in-law Robert Hall and Robert Hanlon of Falmouth, MA.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 4-7 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA. Burial services will be private.
