He was predeceased by: his parents, Joao Monteiro Fontes and Vitalina Fontes (Veiga). He is survived by: his wife Maria L. Fontes (Ribeiro); his son David Fontes; his daughter-in-law Margarita Fontes; his daughter Daniela Fontes-Fried; his son-in-law Nathan Fontes-Fried; his grandsons, Ethan and Lucas Fontes-Fried; and his siblings, Orlando Fontes, Carlos Fontes, Helena Miranda (Fontes), Eunice Medina (Fontes), Rudolfo Fontes and John Fontes. He is also survived by extended family and countless friends.

A wake was held on Thursday, May 22nd 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home (382 First Parish Rd, Scituate, MA 02066). A funeral service was held on Friday, May 23rd 2025 at 9:00 AM at the St. Mary's of the Nativity Church (1 Kent St, Scituate, MA 02066). A burial was held on Friday, May 23rd 2025 at the St. Mary's Cemetery (44 Meeting House Ln, Scituate, MA 02066).
