“My late wife, Susan Hamant Hou, was one of Stan's best friends at UMass Medical School. When his brilliance seemed to be fading, they realized he was developing kidney failure. Susan offered her kidney for his transplant, but his brother was a better match. 49 years of a kidney transplant is amazing. Susan was stimulated by Stan's kidney disease to become a kidney specialist (nephrologist) and ultimately a transplant nephrologist. They remained close friends all these years.”
