Dorothy Irene Johnson Obituary

Dorothy Irene Johnson, at 101 years, died peacefully on the morning of December 7, 2021. She was born in Salmon Falls, New Hampshire, and lived in Somerville, Massachusetts during her childhood. She finally settled in Rockport, where she met and married John "Boik" Johnson.

Dorothy had a great love of family and children. After raising her own children, John Paul, Theresa, William, and Mary Ann, she was a school crossing guard for over two decades. She also helped to care for her seven grandchildren and loved to babysit with her great-grandchildren.

She was an excellent cook, and especially enjoyed baking nisu for family and friends. Also, an accomplished knitter, in her later years she knitted hats for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and then donated hats for newborns at Beverly Hospital. She loved to decorate her home, and neighbors especially looked forward to her yearly Halloween displays.

Dorothy's yard was her pride and joy. She loved to grow flowers and always had a vegetable garden to tend. She was happiest there with her grandchildren helping her, and a dog or two for company. She also hosted many summer cookouts for her family, who will miss her contagious laugh and comforting manner.

She enjoyed donating her time as an assistant Girl Scout leader and member of the St. Joachim's guild. She also met with friends in the "Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club" for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband, John, and son, William. Also, brothers Florian and Roy LaFreniere and a sister, Katherine Martin.
