He was predeceased by: his parents, Evelyn P. Smith (Pondexter) and William Brown Smith; and his siblings, William R. Smith, James P. Smith and Constance Smith Coffer.

He is survived by: his wife Brenda Lee Smith (Gadson); his children, Lawrence A. Smith (Shatina Murphy) and Letisha R. Holmes (William Holmes); his grandchildren, Jacqueline, Jada, Annez, Kayla and Nahzir; his great grandchildren, Alijah and Nigel; and his sister Pamela S. Dixon (Michael Dixon). He is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
