Ellen M. Lisi Obituary
Ellen Marie (Niles) Lisi wife of Joseph Lisi passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 29, 2025.
Ellen was born in Somerville, MA on June 19, 1940, to Mary F. and Frank B. Niles, and was the oldest of three children. The Niles family moved to Stoneham, MA in 1954, where Ellen graduated from Stoneham High School. She continued her education at Salem State College, graduating with a degree in elementary school education in 1962.
As a student, Ellen participated in numerous activities including cheerleading, student leadership roles, and was elected Campus Queen at Salem State in 1962. While attending Salem State, she met her husband of 62 years, Joseph F. Lisi. Following her marriage to Joe, the couple settled in Chelmsford, MA in 1967, where they raised their three boys. During these years, Ellen served as a 2nd grade teacher at St. Margaret's school in Lowell, MA. Summers, Ellen and her family frequently visited the family cottage at Long Beach Gloucester, a tradition she enjoyed since childhood.
In 1998, Ellen and Joe moved to Rockport, where Joe served as Superintendent of the Rockport schools. They lived in Rockport for 25 years, where Ellen enjoyed many friends, and her years as member of the Rockport Garden Club.
Ellen is survived by her husband of 62 years, Joseph F. Lisi; her sons, Joseph P. Lisi, Michael P. Lisi (Nancy Cloonan), and Edward J. Lisi; grandchildren, Haley Maniero (David), Victoria Lisi, and Thomas Lisi; brothers, F. Michael Niles (Charlene) of Norwood, and James H. Niles of Gloucester.
A visitation will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12 noon. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery, Rockport, MA.
