He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Callahan Murphy; his children, Suzanne Gassman (Chris), Caroline Pennoyer (Paul) and Christopher Murphy (Allison May); his grandchildren, Luke, Henry and Elizabeth; his siblings, Bill (Jerrine), Brendan (Jennifer), Carol Barker (David) and Bob (Mindy); and his brothers-in-law, Christopher Callahan (Anne) and John Callahan (Diane). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
