It is with great sadness that we announce the death of David Ernst of Watertown, Massachusetts, who passed away on April 4, 2026, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Ernst and Alice Ernst (Heaney); and his brother Harry Ernst, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Jean Ernst; his daughters, Carolyn Ernst (Olivier Barnouin) of Maryland and Julie Bruno (Joe) of Virginia; and his grandchildren, Vivian, Rose Barnouin, Andrew, Will and Samantha Bruno.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in David's memory can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

“I just found out about this today, and I am heartbroken. I worked with Dave for many years at Suffolk Downs, and all those memories are wonderful. He was so competent, so modest and unassuming, and yet so witty and dependable. All the memories I have involving him are wonderful. I've spent the whole day on the phone with old colleagues, doing the "remember when" about those years with Dave, and they all feel the same. We were so blessed to have worked with him. My condolences to his family.”
