He was predeceased by: his son William Hanafin (Arlene); and his siblings, Connie Hanafin (Rachel), Jack Hanafin (Shirley), Charlie Hanafin (Rose), Gige Hanafin and Jim Hanafin.

He is survived by: his wife Mary M. Hanafin (Kelley); his children, Mary Hourihan (Paul) of West Roxbury, Kathleen Hanafin of West Roxbury, Thomas Hanafin of Roslindale, Eric Hanafin (Heather) of Pembroke, Joseph Hanafin and Patricia Hanafin; and his sisters, Helen Dignan (late Donal) and Kitty Provost (Larry). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
