He was predeceased by : his parents, Joseph Mitchell and Edith Mitchell (Johnson); and his siblings, Wendall "Jack", Samuel Mitchell, Cora Belyeu and Marjorie Mitchell.

He is survived by : his wife Melanie Mitchell (Gunger); his children, Chad (Ryan Haille), Harry, Markus, Jaquan, Peter Mitchell, Keisha Mitchell, Stephanie Taylor, Samantha Agundes (Frank) and Shilah Lopez; his granddaughters, Melanie Agundes, Alice Hernandez, Ava Mitchell and Kayla Ryan; and his brother Joseph Mitchell (Yvonne). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
