He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard M. Chickering and Anita T. Chickering (Cote); and his brothers, Alan Chickering and David Chickering. He is survived by: his wife Barbara L. Chickering (Richardson); his children, Richard L. Chickering and Nancy Chickering-Richmond (Dan); and his siblings, Edward Chickering (Brenda) and Louise Wilkins. He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews.
