He was predeceased by: his parents, John F. Kowal and Catherine Kowal (Callahan); and his siblings, John, James, Thelma, Kathleen and Barbara.

He is survived by: his wife Roberta Kowal; and his grandson Mason J. Kowal. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
