He was predeceased by: his parents, William Hill and Ruth Whittier Johnson McCarter; his son William Hill III; and his sister Joanna. He is survived by: his wife Alice O'Hara McCarter; his children, Susan Austin of Charlotte, NC, Meredith Whittier of Charlotte, NC and Thomas Justin of Charlotte, NC.; and his grandsons, John William of Charlotte, NC and Andrew Thomas McCarter of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
