He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Raymond and Margaret June Coates of Colliers; and his wife Marie Silver Coates of Havre de Grace. He is survived by: his sons, Arthur D. Coates Jr. (Lindsay) of Bel Air, Randolph S. Coates (Laurel) of Havre de Grace and Stephen T. Coates of Aberdeen; his great grandchildren, Caroline P. C. Huether (Timothy) and Andrew S. Coates (Katherine); his nephew George "Wesley" Bobberts (Tina); his cousin Peggy J. Chatfield (Dale); John R. Huether, Alden S., Harrison O. Coates, Rebecca A. Coates, Katherine E. Gilinsky (Jacob), Kristin M. Carr (Jesse), Jesse A., Drew S. Carr, Matthew D. Coates (Erin), Anne F., Daniel P. Coates, Taylor M. Coates (Jacquelyn) and Callahan Q. Coates. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren.
