He was predeceased by: his parents, John Fore Hines Jr. and Mary Earle Hines; and his brother Ralph Hines. He is survived by: his nephew Scott (Dawn); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Joshua (Valerie), Jason (Danielle) and Jenelle (Ken); his nephew Todd Sudmeyer (Kelly); his great-niece Amber; his great-nephew Sam; his niece Megan Porter (Jody); and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Ashley and Brandon. He is also survived by 6 great great nieces and 1 great great nephews.

Voluntary Service sends a letter to the family listing all donations made in the name of the Veteran.
