He was predeceased by: his parents, Emily Hydrick and Edward St. Claire Pugh. He is survived by: his wife Sarah Goodwin of Elizabeth City; his sister Rebecca "Becky" Pugh Fredericks (Stan) of Lothian Maryland; his sister-in-law Peggy McPherson (Alvin) of Elizabeth City; his nieces, Beth Foreman (John Wood Foreman) of Elizabeth City and Meg Hayes (Marcus Hayes) of Greensboro, NC; and his nephew Arthur McPherson of Elizabeth City. He is also survived by five grandnieces and nephews and two great grandnieces and one great grand nephew.
In lieu of flowers, John recognized the need for support for WETA (Washington Educational Telecommunications Association).
