He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Simms and Mary Presto Hall; his wife Mamie M. Simms (Parker); his son Cornelius C. Simms; his grandson Michael E. Simms; and his great grandchild Ji'aire D. Lee.

He is survived by: his children, David G. Hardy, Sr. (Diane), Julius D. Simms, Jr. (Nadine), Mauricio E. Simms, Sr. (Molly), Taricio L. Simms, Tielonzo L. Simms, Vonnita M. Simms-Gordon and Vontasha R. Simms. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins and close friends.
