He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Simms Matthews and William Matthews, Sr.; his wife Reverend Callie Matthews; his son Robert Matthews, Jr.; and his brother William "Sonny Boy" Matthews.
He is survived by: his children, Michael, Derek (Carla), Eshe Montague (Lawrence), Carrie Brown (Alvin) and Kizza (Hillary). He is also survived by eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; his surviving siblings; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Asbury Broadneck United Methodist Church (657 Broadneck Rd, Annapolis, MD 21409).
