She was predeceased by: her parents, Harry Bright and Gwendolyn Coleman Melvin; her stepfather Earl Melvin; and her son Hasan Zainal. She is survived by: her siblings, Cameron Bright, Christopher Melvin (Tracey), Wanda Ward and Michelle "Mimi" Bland; and her grandchildren, Cameron Lee, Kenneth Zainal (Shana), Kimberly Hayes, Zaimari Hyden, Yasmin Zacarias, Deyawni Zainal, Zacarius, Kayle Zainal, Nicole Zainal and Jordan Zainal. She is also survived by seven great‑grandchildren.
