He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Bogans and Annie Mae Blake; and his siblings, Annie Louise, Margaret, Nell, Charles, William and George.

He is survived by: his wife Gloria Lee (Tuttie); his siblings, Rev Elroy Blake (Connie) and Beatrice Blake; and his children, Berice, James Jr. Jacqule (Teresa), Corey (Jeannie) and Craig (Andretta).

Visitation was held on Monday, September 14th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Estep Brothers Funeral Service (1300 Eutaw Pl, Baltimore, MD 21217). Viewing was held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the New Shiloh Baptist Church (2100 N Monroe St, Baltimore, MD 21217). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Loudon Park Cemetery (3620 Wilkens Ave, Baltimore, MD 21229).
