He was predeceased by: his parent-in-law M. E. "Ed" Ballard. He is survived by: his wife Julie B. Johnstone; his children, Christopher M. Johnstone and Deborah M. Knott; his siblings, Robert Johnstone, William Johnstone, Donna Bearden, Barbara Johnstone, Richard Johnstone and Marjorie Jacobsen; his mother-in-law Eleanor E. Ballard; and his former wife Virginia Johnstone. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
