He was predeceased by: his wife Nancy Cotton Swindell; and his siblings, Thomas Parran Swindell and Sally Swindell Rinehart. He is survived by: his children, Bobby (Betsy), Cotton (Tracy), Terry (Maria) and Jimmy (Susie). He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was a long-time supporter of the Virginia Athletic Foundation and a fan of all UVA sports.
