He is survived by: his wife Catherine A. Whaley; his children, John Whaley, Sr. (Linda Faye), William Whaley (Angie), Marcella Whaley and Linda Whaley Harris (Richard "Frank"); and his brother Preston Whaley (Glendola). He is also survived by eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
